St. Moritz is not just an Alpine resort. The village in the Upper Engadine is the birthplace of winter tourism in Switzerland and was the venue for two Olympic Winter Games. Originally, however, St. Moritz owes its importance to the well-known healing springs, which made the place a summer health resort early on.
The first golf tournament in the Alps was held here in 1889.
In addition to traditional hiking and mountain biking, you can go sailing, rowing, windsurfing or horseriding, play tennis or golf and much more.
In winter there are 150 km of winter hiking, paths and cross-country skiers will find a network of around 200 km of trails in the Engadine.
In St. Moritz and the surrounding area there are 350 km of downhill ski slopes with the most modern infrastructure. The world-famous natural ice channels of Cresta and Bob runs are the oldest in the world. Curling is also still played on natural ice outdoors.
On the frozen lake, equestrian sports such as polo and horse racing take place as well as an annual cricket tournament.
The sun shines on average 300 days a year in the Engadine.
